Georgia and Benjamin’s wedding at Events by Alpha wedding was exactly the kind of day they had imagined: stylish, a little extravagant, beautifully dressed and, most importantly, a very good party. As a Sydney wedding photographer, these are the types of days that I love photographing!

Getting Ready at Meriton Suites

The day began at Meriton Suites World Tower, an ideal location for the prep as it’s just short walk from Events by Alpha. Georgia and Benjamin got ready in seperate rooms with their respective bridal parties before making their way to the venue for the ceremony.

Throughout the morning I learned that they are both incredibly driven and hardworking, with big personalities and equally big hearts. They share a love of good food, music, conversation, a stiff drink and English football, although thankfully they don’t support each other’s rival teams.

The wedding Ceremony at Events by Alpha

Benjamin & Georgia’s ceremony was held in the Lobby area outside The Gallery room at Events by Alpha. The Gallery is a beautiful space with soaring five-metre ceilings and exposed heritage brickwork that gives the room much of its character. The Gallery can accommodate up to 180 guests for a seated wedding with space for a dancefloor, making it a great option for them and couples wanting a larger celebration while still having a defined and intimate event space. The Gallery also has an enclosed outdoor terrace and dedicated bridal dressing room, giving couples some flexibility around how they use the space throughout the day and night.

For couples with larger guest numbers, Events by Alpha has another dedicated space called The Grand which is located on the upper level. The Grand can accommodate up to 270 guests with enough space for a dancefloor, and features Victorian-era walls, original arches and antique brass details.

For Georgia and Benjamin, The Gallery was an immediate choice. It was the first venue they visited and, as they put it, an instant yes. Their styling brought a softer layer into the space, with candles, scattered petals, pale cascading florals and pops of colour complementing the brickwork and creating the moody, romantic feel they had imagined.

Portraits Around Sydney

After the ceremony, we headed out onto the streets for portraits, eventually making our way on foot towards Town Hall. This was one of my favourite parts of the day. Getting out into the city gave the photographs a completely different feel from the ceremony, with the scale and texture of Sydney’s streets and the architecture around Town Hall providing a historic backdrop. It also gave Georgia and Benjamin a little time together before returning to the party, and there was plenty of laughter along the way.

Back to Events by Alpha

Back at Events by Alpha, things quickly shifted from wedding day to party. The styling really came into its own as the evening went on, with candlelight, flowers and pops of colour bringing a softer atmosphere into the space. Georgia and Benjamin had described the look they wanted as something like a moody fairy garden in a concrete jungle, mixed with a dressed-up dinner and a proper rager. That was a pretty accurate description of their night.

One of the other things that makes Events by Alpha particularly suited to this kind of celebration is that food is a genuine part of the experience. Their wedding offering is built around the Greek cuisine from Alpha’s restaurant, rather than the venue simply functioning as a blank event space.

Throughout the evening there was plenty of time for speeches, drinks and celebrating with their favourite people before the dance floor inevitably took over. The venue’s dedicated wedding coordinator and event team also help take care of the logistics behind the scenes, allowing them to concentrate on enjoying the day.

A Wedding at Events by Alpha

What I liked most about Georgia and Benjamin’s wedding was that it never felt like they were trying to fit themselves into a particular idea of what a wedding should be.

They clearly love beautiful things and getting dressed up, but they also wanted the day to feel like them: warm, social, slightly excessive and centred around having a great time with their people.

Events by Alpha gave them the setting for that, while the streets of Sydney added something completely different to the photographs. From the ceremony through to portraits and the reception, the day had a really natural progression, finishing exactly as it should: with everyone having a seriously good time.

For couples looking for an Events by Alpha wedding in the Sydney CBD, the venue can accommodate everything from a more intimate celebration through to a large reception, while putting a real emphasis on food, architecture and atmosphere. It’s a particularly good option if you want the convenience of a city venue but still want plenty of character and flexibility within the space.
