In your own words, tell me a little about yourselves – I “Taylor” am a midwife, Tyler works in insurance. We can’t remember when we actually met, but we have known each other since high school. We got to know each other better at our local pub where all of our friend would congregate every Friday night. We didn’t start dating until we were 22 though! Tyler is sport-mad – playing and watching. He also likes reading, exercising, listening to country music. I love reading, spending time with my dog Ollie, watching sport. Together, we love supporting the Sydney Swans, spending time with our friends and family, going to the beach, and going away for weekends.
How did the proposal take place that lead to your Squires Vineyard wedding? – We were in Edinburgh, Scotland. I wanted to go and watch the sunrise at Calton Hill, and our tour guide also recommended. Tyler seemed oddly enthusiastic for this. Our alarm went off at 5:30am and Tyler shot out of bed, telling me to get up “now” because we might miss the sunrise, even though it was still dark outside. I started to get a bit suss during the whole walk up this hill to the lookout. I was going back and forth in my head about whether he was going to propose. I had been dropping hints all year but I didn’t think he would be game enough to carry the ring in his bag through Europe. We trekked it up this hill, and I was so out of breath, and I was just about to look around at the beautiful view, but Tyler had already gotten down on one knee to propose! It was perfect, we then watched the sunrise. Tyler was so stressed about doing it before too many people getting up there because he didn’t want a crowd watching haha.
What have you learnt about each other since being together, funny or serious? – Taylor – I have learned that Tyler enjoys the simple things in life, is incredibly practical, patient and thoughtful. I also now know he hates traffic, can hold a tune if he really tries and is pretty much good at every sport he tries. Tyler – Taylor is the most organised and driven, yet somehow lazy person I have ever met. She loves to clean, though loves to make the mess. Taylor is loyal, kind and passionate. Loves the swans, especially complaining about their performances.
Can you tell me a little about your vision for your Squires Vineyard wedding in the Hunter Valley? We are hoping for it to be just a big party with our family and friends. Some traditional elements like speeches and a first dance, but also ditching the cake cutting, big bridal party entrances, seated reception with bridal table, bouquet toss. We want everyone to have fun and be well watered and fed. Our ceremony and reception is entirely outdoors, besides the dance floor which is inside because of noise restrictions. Our Squire’s Vineyard wedding is canape style, with lots of grouped seating for a casual atmosphere, lawn games, acoustic live music throughout. The style is rustic, with a side of disco. The flowers are going to be orange/pink/red tones, soft and unstructured. Disco balls will also be used as decorations. We have a large disco ball hanging from the ceiling where the dance floor is too. There will be a dessert table made up of a number of cakes and donuts that people can help themselves to once the dance floor starts.
Why did the venue, Squires Vineyard appeal to you and what was your reason for selecting it? – Every year, Tyler and I travel to somewhere regional/rural in NSW during winter for a weekend getaway (Mudgee, Orange, Hunter, Blue Mountains, Jindabyne etc). We are very much beach people but love getting out of the city, into the peace and quiet of nature and open spaces. I love watching the sunsets and amazing stars at night. We loved Squires Vineyard because it is a large, private property, with beautiful views. When the sun sets it is stunning on a good day. It had the option to have the reception outdoors, seated or canape, and also accommodation for 30 people onsite, which was important to us, as all our immediate family and bridal party can stay and make a long weekend out of it.
