Alexis & Matthew – Enzo Wedding

About: “We like to think we are easy going (unless planning a wedding!) kind of people, who love spending time with our family and friends. We love a good wine/winery/wine region and love getting out into nature. This includes camping and 4WD’ing, and generally “disconnecting” from the hustle. We met on Bumble in August of 2017, and our first date was brunch at The Grounds of Alexandria. Matt was shy, but a pure gentleman. I talked too much, mostly out of nerves and to overcompensate for Matt’s quieter nature!”

The Proposal: “Matt tried to propose by taking me back to the restaurant where we first met, but I cottoned on to his incredibly nervous energy and when we got to the restaurant, it was PACKED – kids running around everywhere! So, I quickly shut that down. Poor Guy! 4 days later, he came home from work early and suggested we go to Centennial Park for a picnic. He’d bought prawns, cheese, wine and before we left, he gave me this great cheese board with a beautiful bible verse on it which said: “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” Although I also saw this proposal coming, it was still very exciting. I cried when Matt asked me to spend the rest of my life with him – tears of joy (and probably also because it was so surreal!) After our picnic, we went to our regular weekly family dinner with my family and shared the great news. He then took me on a surprise trip to Tasmania two days later to meet up with our good friends – a surprise he had successfully kept under wraps almost until the day we flew out – almost!”

The Vision: “We never had a set picture in our mind of what we wanted our Enzo Hunter Valley wedding to look like – but we just knew we wanted it to be fun and have great food, and great wine. We wanted somewhere with an indoor/outdoor vibe, so that people could be where they were most comfortable. We also wanted it to be in a wine region because we have had some of our best times at wineries and you can’t beat photos amongst the vines! We wanted to have it out of Sydney so that people could really relax and not have to worry about getting home to the babysitter, or what they were doing the next morning. We felt people would be more “present” that way.
We have a mixture of classic, but also slightly boho/rustic taste. These things often do not blend and so in the end, the venue spoke to more of the classic vibe.”

The Venue: “Enzo’s appealed to us because there was a gorgeous little onsite chapel and we very risk-averse when it comes to weather. But also, because the space is large, open and beautiful and has a lovely wrap around deck overlooking the vines. However, the clincher was probably meeting Mel – the owner. She has such a great energy and vibe, and you know she would do ANYTHING to ensure we have the best, most stress-free day possible. We also tasted the wines at Peter Drayton’s and they passed the test!”
